Rainbow Bridge

x
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sully, formerly Gentle Ben
Sully, formerly Gentle Ben, was pulled Jan 31st as unclaimed stray from the South Central Los Angeles shelter, wearing the remnants of a happier days gone by, an old faded red bandanna and a collar that was far too tight, we met him and were in love! We got him the moment he was available and he went right into a foster home and his foster mom adored him, said he was one of the most polite dogs she'd ever met. Within days Valerie adopted him, she'd been wanting to adopt from us and had been looking for just the perfect gentle soul of a Labrador. It was love at first sight. She told me once he was like having a new born baby because she never wanted to leave him. She was completely in love and could not get over how lucky she was to have been able to adopt Sully, he was everything she dreamed of in a dog and he loved her too. He enjoyed a life he never knew possible, full of so much love, she cooked for him and doted on him each and ever day. Valerie is a grandmother and her granddaughter Peyton and Sully were very good friends. He was simply a neglected unloved dog who was just about the most kind soul I've ever met and so grateful for any kindness shown to him. Sadly, after only one month of being loved and adored, our sweet Sully died of a grand seizure on 3/1/11. Valerie was with him the entire time, thankfully she was not alone, they called a pet ambulance but he could not be saved. We are all devastated but grateful to Valerie for showing him how wonderful the world can be and for being there for him at the end. Godspeed Sully...you touched so many in such a short time...we will see you again...
